Reinventing a 177-Year Old Company — CEO Shares Her Take on Change

In May 2016, Nancy Newmister was named President and CEO of Frederick Mutual Insurance Company and tasked with reinventing what is America’s ninth oldest insurance company in operation, chartered in 1843. Ms. Newmister, the first woman to take the reins of the Frederick, MD-based company, called upon a combination of her 35 years of insurance experience as well as the company’s founding principles in establishing a new course. She shares her thoughts about the company’s new directions and managing growth with writer Scott Grove.
